Artistic Expressions, Hannah Jupiter, B.F.A.

Here is my artist statement about my own art:

Hannah Art TherapistMy work begins with preliminary photos that I am drawn to on a personal level and visual aesthetic. I then execute the photos bringing them together to create their own world under a stream of consciousness. There for, evoking humor, irregular scales, and unintentional junctions.

Similar to Surrealism, I take these elements of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions, and chance in a controlled setting. In many ways these subjects in my work become re imagined through collage and mixed media creating them a new life and allude new meaning. Finding each of these moments is important and satisfying for me. Bridging together the old, new, past, and present provoking a familiarity we have with these subjects in an uncomfortable way.

I come across many people that feel that don't understand art or know how to "draw" or "paint" but the wonderful thing is you don't need to know how to! The most important thing is that you are willing to try something new an experience you may be unfamiliar with. Everyone has the ability to creating something, together we can create beautiful art, memories, and life! There is no such thing as I don't know how! There is only how can we find a way!

Pet Therapy

Pet TherapyResearch has shown that heart attack victims who have pets live longer. Even watching a tank full of tropical fish may lower blood pressure, at least temporarily. A study of 92 patients hospitalized in coronary care units for angina or heart attack found that those who owned pets were more likely to be alive a year later than those who did not. The study found that only 6 percent of patients who owned pets died within one year compared with 28 percent of those who did not own pets.

The therapeutic use of pets as companions has gained increasing attention in recent years for a wide variety of patients -people with AIDS or cancer, the elderly, and the mentally ill. Unlike people, with whom our interactions may be quite complex and unpredictable, animals provide a constant source of comfort and focus for attention. Animals bring out our nurturing instinct. They also make us feel safe and unconditionally accepted. We can just be ourselves around our pets.

Bringing a pet into a nursing home or hospital can boost peoples' moods and enhance their social interaction. A study conducted at UCLA found that dog owners required much less medical care for stress-induced aches and pains than non-dog owners.

Being around a pet can add years to your life!
